July 2nd was a grey morning as we met Mark Lytle on the Pacific City beach for a day of dory fishing at 4:45 am. No whining about sleep here. We were excited to try our hands at Oregon Coast fishing and we were not disappointed. Mark arrived on time and we were on the water just a few minutes after putting on our lifejackets. The beach launch was smooth and we were alongside haystack rock catching Sea Bass and Ling Cod as fast as we could keep up. With all the fish in the boat and on the lines at the same time it got a bit chaotic and while we were bringing in a line one of the freshly caught Ling cod decided to flop around trying to get off the boat ( crazy fish). It flipped so fast that I ended up with a hook stuck in my left hand ( crazy girl). Mark was over in a jiffy and pulled it out ( he says I made quite the face but I will deny it). We caught our limits in just a short time and headed over to check the four crab pots that Mark had dropped two days before. Caught our limits after just two pots and had to leave the others for another day. The weather had gotten a bit rough and we were about to head home when another boat caught a Salmon. After a quick look at the clock we decided it would be a shame to call it quits so we headed toward calmer waters to start our trolling. We quickly hit a school of Silver salmon and caught 4 keepers and 1 throw back. With a boat full of Ling Cod, Salmon, Dungeness crab and sea bass we headed back to land. Back to the cabin to clean fish and cook crab... A grey day is still a great day fishing! We will visit Mark Lytle and pacific city fishing again.
