A couple of weeks ago, my dad told me we were "trying something new", and that he was really excited about it. If you have a dad, you know that's a dangerous sentence...you're probably going to end up doing something ridiculous, embarrassing, physically exhausting, or a combination of all three. This time, that assumption was wrong. Our "family fun day" was spent dory fishing, and I've honestly never had so much fun fishing (and that's saying a lot, because I threw up not once, but twice...being sea sick is obviously only for the cool kids). The whole experience was relaxed and I never felt silly not knowing how to do something. Everyone was patient and helpful, and I didn't have to do anything I didn't want to. Rather than just sitting around waiting for the fish to come to us, we went out looking for them, which meant there wasn't a ton of boring downtime. Taking off and landing wasn't nearly as nerve-wracking as I expected, and I felt completely safe the whole time. Here the moral of the story: if your dad tries to convince you that dory fishing is going to become your new "annual family thing", believe him. You'll have a ton of fun, and you won't even regret throwing up. - Ellen img_2520.jpg
