Early meeting on the beach

Saturday, July 25th, 2026

We started the day early by meeting Mark and buddy on the beach. It was a clear day but still chilly- I had two layers of pants, two layers on top, boots, plus a hat and rain coat and I still was cold, even in July!

We started fishing for rock fish and it was so fun! I hadn’t fished since I was a kid and Mark helped me remember the basics. (And was kind enough to keep reminding me). After catching our quota, we headed out deeper into the sea for salmon. I was a little nervous, but we could still see the shore, so I felt alright. The ride out was exciting! Even though I took some sea sick meds, my stomach felt a bit queasy… after a while I did have to throw up a bit. (it happens to the best of us). But once I did I felt much better. Salmon fishing was where the action was- a lot happens quickly and they are so much stronger than the rock fish! We ended the trip by picking up crab pots. These things are huge. It was so cool to see 15 of these guys in the pots at a time.

After we got back from the beach we went back home and took a quick shower and met back up with Mark, Buddy, and Linda while they prepped our fish and boiled the crab. They do all the hard parts for us, which is so nice.

For anyone thinking about going on a trip, I would definitely recommend it. Mark, Linda, and Buddy answer the questions, make you feel welcome, and ensure you go home with your fill of Pacific City’s finest. Make sure to dress warm, in layers. Bring a hat and waterproof shoes (my husband’s toes were ice cold in his soaked trainers by the end) and take some motion sickness meds. There isn’t much room on the boat, so no need to bring much more than yourself, maybe a water bottle, and a ginger chew for your stomach.
