best day of fishing ever

Wednesday, July 29th, 2026

My husband and I came from Idaho to join friends Fishing with Pacific City Fishing. We came by way of John, Oregon because of the wildfires that added three hours onto our travel. Every moment was worth it.

Fishing from the dory was an amazing experience. We got on the boat on the shore and mowed out through the waves into the ocean at 5:30 in the morning. It was absolutely gorgeous within 30 minutes we started catching Black rock fish, which is also called Black Seabass, and within one and a half hours we had limited out… six of us. Two of us had two fish on at one time. We were fishing close to Haystack rock which we were able to drive close to see all the common mirror birds with their babies, taking their first flight off of Haystack rock.

On the way to Haystack rock we saw two gray whales which were surfacing in the area we were fishing. We also went to pick up our crab pots. We were each allowed to take 12 Dungeness crab per person with us. They are huge!

We trolled for Salmon got two hits, but we’re unable to bring them in. They are fast little buggers. The weather was cool but sunny. Our captain, Mark and crew mate, Buddy were wonderful and funny. I have never fished for rockfish before and they taught us how!

If you were thinking about coming fishing over in Oregon Coast I highly recommend you pick Dory Fishing with Pacific City Fishing! In addition of fishing, launching from the beach and arriving on the beach in the dory was a most fantastic experience.
