James and I heard there may be a break in the weather and opportunity to get on the water for our first time fishing off of the Oregon Coast. Capt. Mark confirmed there is rarley a window in December and we should jump on it. So we made the drive down from Hood River through the chaos of the winter storm to go fishing on a Dory boat. And it was worth it! The dory boats in Pacific City launch off the beach. So we met Capt. Mark down at the launch spot near the Pelican Brewery, loaded up in the boat, and he backed us into the shallows. It was intense waiting for the set waves to pass and the right time to go for it but we were able to make it out without getting wet, which was great since it was very cold. Once on the water, the fishing was hot! Capt. Mark is able to mark the schools of fish on his fishfinder and we were dropping the jigs and getting tight on the first or second bounce. The ling cod hit hard and rip drag! We limited out on ling cod and rockfish, and caught cabezon, china, kelp trout, blue and black rockfish, and a copper. This type of fishing is action packed and fun! We were limited out within three hours. I asked Capt. Marc if we could stop by the big Haystack rock for some pictures and we got some sick shots of the ling cod in front of it. The dory boats drive right onto the beach so Capt Mark gave us the rundown and told us where to hold on. The landing was smooth and we hopped right off the boat onto the sand. All in all, us Florida boys had a great experience fishing off the beautiful Oregon coast with Capt Mark and would highly recommend bottom fishing with Capt Mark.
