Starting with a 5:00 am wake up call, I went straight from bed to the boat. The question of the day was what to wear and in about 5 minutes I realized I was not wearing enough. With wind and waves being my biggest enemy of the day, I wish I had brought a warm pair of gloves and waterproof pants. As a complete novice to fishing my expectations for this adventure were limited…and a wild adventure it was! With waves crashing and tummies turning, I was glad to be wearing my Sea Bands, but lucky enough no one chucked anything off the boat other than fish guts. The trip started with catching Rockfish that were practically jumping into the boat! Silly me thinking the whole experience would be this easy. I quickly learned that Cod are much more stubborn and was glad to have Captain Mark and Marcus there to guide me along the way. Not only do they both have a vast knowledge about fishing, but a good sense of humor and lots of patience too! While catching delicious fish was the ultimate goal, the quiet moments in between of waiting and reeling were the most fun for me. It’s always a good day when someone can match my wit and banter, and Captain Mark did not disappoint! On a trip full of lots of new experiences, fishing with Pacific City Fishing has been a favorite, even if I was mistaken as someone half my age (almost 22).
